Flattery—found twenty times in the Old Testament and only once in the New Testament
Variations: flatter, flattereth, flatteries, flattering, flattery
Last usage in the Old Testament: Daniel 11:34 (flatteries)
Interesting fact: Flatteries come from many different people with many different motives. Some people might believe the flattery of a friend (Job 17:5), others might believe the flattery of a neighbour (Psalm 12:2; Proverbs 29:5), but the Bible points out that only a fool would believe the flattery of a stranger (Proverbs 2:16; Proverbs 6:24).
Bible study tip: Though not all scripture is written directly to you, give equal respect unto all of God’s commandments (Psalm 119:6). This will protect you from the shameful practices of the religious leaders of Christ’s day who omitted the weightier matters of the law (Matthew 23:23).
