Variations: hope, hoped, hope’s, hopeth
First usage: Ruth 1:12 (hope)
Last usage: 1 John 3:3 (hope)
Definition: trust, confidence, or expectation
Interesting fact: Over one-half (thirty-six of the sixty-six) books of the Bible never use the word hope. Of those books that include the use of the various forms of the word hope, eleven only include a single use. This equates to only nineteen books of the Bible incorporating the other 131 times.
Bible study tip: Do not fret over seemingly difficult passages. The first time you approach a passage for the purpose of study and comprehension, you may only experience minimal understanding. As time passes and you continue your spiritual growth in your walk with the Lord along with personal Bible knowledge, the level of your understanding will increase. Failing to continue to pursue the understanding of a passage because of its difficulties will hinder a student’s gaining additional knowledge on any given passage. Simply put, Bible study demands studious endurance.
