Fear—found 524 times in 501 verses
Variations: fear, feared, fearest, feareth, fearful, fearfully, fearfulness, fearing, fears
First usage: Genesis 9:2 (fear)
Last usage: Revelation 21:8 (fearful)
Defined: being afraid or uneasiness brought on by possible danger
Interesting fact: The phrase fear not appears sixty-two times in scripture. The first occurrence is when “the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward” (Genesis 15:1). The last occurrence of fear not occurs when John, the beloved, saw Jesus Christ and “fell at his feet as dead.” Christ “laid his right hand upon” John, and said unto him, “Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death” (Revelation 1:17-18). With the word of God and Jesus Christ, the Christian has nothing to fear.
Bible study tip: The Bible contains no contradictions. When two verses or concepts seem contradictory, the Bible student must consider the varying contexts which account for the supposed contradiction. For instance, Proverbs 26:4-5says, “Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.” Obviously, there are times to answer a fool and other times to refuse to answer a fool.
