Stewardship—found six times in six Old Testament verses and fourteen times in twelve New Testament verses
Variations: steward, stewards, stewardship
Last usage in the Old Testament: 1 Chronicles 28:1 (stewards)
First usage in the New Testament: Matthew 20:8 (steward)
Interesting fact: Luke chapter 16 includes seven references to stewardship, more than any other book of the Bible. Within that chapter, we learn of a wise but unjust steward. The recommendation of the Lord at the end of the parable was to “make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness” (Luke 16:9).
Bible study tip: In order to achieve the most complete Bible study, one must identify associated Bible words. For instance, a complete study of the word stewardship would include considering words like minister, ministry, and dispensation. This may take more time but insures a more complete context to your study.
